Bookbinding Taster Workshop: Japanese Stab Stitch

Join us for a relaxed 90-minute Japanese stab stitch bookbinding workshop and learn how to turn paper scraps, prints, or artwork into a beautifully bound notebook.

This beginner-friendly session is perfect for anyone curious about bookbinding or looking for a mindful, creative evening. Japanese stab stitch is a simple and elegant technique that binds loose pages together through the edge – ideal for mixed papers and collage-style books.

You’ll be guided step by step to create your own handmade notebook.

In this workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn the fundamentals of Japanese stab stitch

  • Make a small practice book

  • Create your own larger stitched notebook

  • Work with your own papers or our curated studio materials

Feel free to bring your own artwork, prints, or paper scraps – or use our selection of card and materials provided.

Evening sessions have a cosy, social atmosphere, with refreshments available from our bar throughout the workshop.

You’ll leave with a finished notebook and the skills to keep making more at home.

What you'll get

  • A small A6 notebook made by stepping through the process

  • A finished A5 or 2xA6 notebook made by you from your offcuts

  • 8 sheets of high-quality 130gsm internal paper (+2 for the demo book)

  • Access to coloured card and collage scraps if you’d like to use ours for your covers

  • All tools and materials to complete the binding process
