Beyond Basics - Full-Day Lino Reduction Printing

Join us for a 6-hour creative retreat dedicated to the magic of lino reduction printing in London, a more advanced, richly rewarding printmaking technique that lets you build up layered artworks from just one lino block.

This day is designed for anyone who has tried lino before. Over the course of the day, you’ll learn how reduction printing works, discuss how to design for reduction printing and experiment with designing and carving your own piece.

You'll leave with new confidence, skills, and your own layered reduction print to take home.

This retreat takes place in our bright Deptford studio, just steps from the cafés and restaurants of Deptford Market Yard. With an hour’s lunch break, so you’ll have time to explore.

What to expect:

  • Understanding the principles of lino reduction printing.

  • How to reduce and simplify images for multi-layer printing.

  • Colour planning and how to think in overlapping ink layers.

  • Choice of paper to either hand print or use our press

  • Designing and carving the first layer of your own block.

  • One-to-one support as you experiment with colour, registration, and sequencing.

  • Time to deepen your understanding through hands-on practice at your own pace.

You’ll finish with a multi-layer reduction print made from your single block, plus a host of new printing skills to try out again and again.

What you'll get

  • All materials for the day

  • Use of lino tools, inks, rollers, and our printing press

  • Two 15x10cm lino blocks: one for printing, one for registration block

  • Guidance from an experienced printmaker

  • Your multi-layer reduction print to take home

  • Tea and coffee throughout the day
